AI Sidebar Translator

Privacy Policy

Last Updated: August 16, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the AI Sidebar Translator Chrome extension (the “Extension”) processes information. The Extension is a single-purpose tool for translating text that a user enters in Chrome’s Side Panel.

1. Extension Purpose

The Extension lets you enter or paste text, select source and target languages, and request a translation from an AI service that you configure. The resulting translation is displayed in the Side Panel. The Extension does not provide unrelated advertising, profiling, or browsing features.

2. Information We Process

The Extension processes the following information to provide its features:

  • the text you manually enter or paste for translation;
  • your selected source and target languages;
  • the translation returned by your configured AI service;
  • API configuration, including provider label, API base URL, endpoint, model name, temperature, and API key; and
  • a fixed, non-personal test message when you choose the “Test API” function.

The Extension does not read your current webpage, browsing history, cookies, website form data, or activity on webpages. It does not request the tabs, activeTab, or scripting permissions, and it does not inject content scripts into webpages. It contains no analytics, advertising, tracking, or telemetry code.

3. AI Translation Services

When you click “Translate,” the Extension sends the text you entered, your selected source and target languages, the configured model name, and the temperature setting directly to the HTTPS API endpoint you configured. Your API key is sent to that endpoint in the authorization header. This transfer occurs only to complete the translation you requested.

The default configuration uses DeepSeek’s Chat Completions API at https://api.deepseek.com/chat/completions with the deepseek-chat model. You may replace this with another HTTPS service that uses an OpenAI-compatible Chat Completions format. The Extension requests access only to the API origin you configure and approve in Chrome.

When you click “Test API,” the Extension sends a fixed connection-test prompt, the configured model and temperature, and your API key to the configured API. It does not send text from the translation input field during this test.

4. Local Storage

The Extension uses chrome.storage.local on your device to save these settings:

  • source language and target language;
  • provider label;
  • API base URL and endpoint;
  • model name and temperature; and
  • API key.

The Extension does not write the text you submit for translation or the returned translation to chrome.storage.local. Those values are held only in the Side Panel page while it remains loaded. Copying a translation writes it to your clipboard only after you click “Copy.”

5. API Keys

You provide your own API key. It is stored locally in chrome.storage.local and is not sent to the Extension developer. The Extension sends the key only to the API endpoint you configured, for authentication of translation and connection-test requests. The Extension does not add its own encryption layer to the locally stored key, so you should protect access to your Chrome profile and device.

You can remove the saved API key from the Extension’s settings page. The same action also attempts to revoke the optional Chrome permission for the currently configured API origin.

6. Data Sharing

The Extension developer does not receive, sell, rent, or use your translation text, translation results, API key, or saved settings for advertising, profiling, or any unrelated purpose. Information required for a translation is shared only with the AI API provider you select, and only to provide the Extension’s user-facing translation function.

The Extension’s use of information is limited to its disclosed single purpose and is intended to comply with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

7. Data Retention

The Extension developer does not operate a server that receives or retains your translation text, translation results, API key, or settings. Locally saved settings remain in chrome.storage.local until you change or delete them, clear the Extension’s stored data, or uninstall the Extension. Translation text and results are not persisted by the Extension.

Your selected AI provider may retain requests, responses, account information, or technical logs under its own terms and privacy policy. The Extension developer does not control that provider’s retention practices.

8. Third-Party Services

Your chosen AI API provider is an independent third party. Before using the Extension, review that provider’s privacy policy, data-retention terms, security practices, and account settings. DeepSeek is the default provider, but the Extension can be configured to use another compatible HTTPS provider.

This privacy-policy webpage may be hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare may process standard network information needed to deliver the page, such as an IP address and request metadata, under its own privacy policy. This webpage does not set cookies, run analytics, or load third-party scripts, fonts, or other remote page assets.

9. Security

The Extension requires configured API URLs to use HTTPS and sends requests directly from the Extension to the approved API origin. It contains no remote or dynamically executed JavaScript. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, however. You are responsible for choosing a trustworthy API provider, protecting your API key and device, and reviewing the provider’s security controls.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated if the Extension’s features, data practices, or legal obligations change. Material changes will be reflected in the published policy, and the “Last Updated” date above will be revised. The policy and Chrome Web Store disclosures should be reviewed whenever the Extension’s data-handling behavior changes.

11. Contact

For privacy questions or requests, contact the Extension developer through the support contact provided on the AI Sidebar Translator listing in the Chrome Web Store.
